The LPS Summer Intensive in June 2024 joined participants from research groups in Los Angeles and Vancouver to initiate the next phase of LPS, connecting peoples, practices and histories along the Pacific coastline, across Turtle Island, in recognition of the challenges and change to the wider planet. Artists, musicians, writers, and practitioners, (four from Los Angeles and fifteen from Vancouver) came together to co-facilitate the three-day program. Each participant led 30 minutes of our schedule, sharing their creative work, research questions, and offering a collective prompt (a close reading, a dance, somatic exploration, or performance score) that we practiced together. We worked out of the Dance Centre, as well as on Wreck Beach (Ts'at'lhm, Musqueam land) and X̱á7elcha (the Squamish name for Lynn Creek.)
Following the intensive, all Vancouver-based artists received one-year of Dance Centre membership, 25 hours in personal studio credits, plus an additional 15 hours for group studio work as part of the 2024-25 LPS creative research residency at the Dance Centre. These communal working / open studio sessions are now being coordinated by a core group of Liberated Planet Studio collective members (Chantal, Reed, Alyssa and Marco).
If you would like to join these communal sessions, please reach out with a sentence about yourself to LPS collective members at [email protected]
